Apple has just announced features of iOS 8 for iPhone, iPad and iPod devices.

The numbers:

• 130 million new iOS users from the last year.  Many came from using Android.
• 89% of iOS users are running iOS 7 which came out last fall.  9% of Android users still running an OS from 4 years ago.
• App Store now has 1.2 million apps
• 300,000,000 people visit the App Store each week.
• 75 billion apps have been downloaded

• In-app interaction with Notification Center
• Double tap home button access to recent contacts
• Mail function updates
• Spotlight expanded search capabilities
• QuickType keyboard technology supports predictive suggestions based on your typing habits and who you type to.
• Continuity with OS X devices
• Naming of iMessage threads and option to leave group messages
• iMessage map view of who you are messaging with
• iMessage will include voice messaging
• HealthKit to integrate devices, services and apps in the health care business
• Family Sharing integrates sharing of apps, music, movies and location with up to six family members
• Photos are now shared and updated on all devices through iCloud
• New iCloud pricing
• SIRI now has Shazam song recognition

iOS 8 will be released in the fall.
