How much hockey is in your market?

If you are in British Columbia, your market grew 5% from the previous year based on Hockey Canada's 2012/13 registration numbers.  In Canada, there were 624,148 registrations or a 1.14% growth from the previous year.  Hockey North (Northwest Territories and Nunavut Territory) had the largest percentage drop in registrations.

These numbers can help you with national, provincial and regional marketing efforts.  How much marketing are you doing towards female hockey players for example?  14% of the registrations last season were female.  With the women winning gold in Sochi and the CWHL having its sixth annual Clarkson Cup, this is a market you don't want to ignore.  Since 1997/98, female registration has grown 200%.  Male registration has grown only 9.6% since that period.

This graph shows male and female registrations since the 1997/98 season.  The 2011/12 spike in male registrations comes from ASHL members rolled under Hockey Canada.
