How much hockey is in your market?

If you are in British Columbia, your market grew 5% from the previous year based on Hockey Canada's 2012/13 registration numbers.  In Canada, there were 624,148 registrations or a 1.14% growth from the previous year.  Hockey North (Northwest Territories and Nunavut Territory) had the largest percentage drop in registrations.

These numbers can help you with national, provincial and regional marketing efforts.  How much marketing are you doing towards female hockey players for example?  14% of the registrations last season were female.  With the women winning gold in Sochi and the CWHL having its sixth annual Clarkson Cup, this is a market you don't want to ignore.  Since 1997/98, female registration has grown 200%.  Male registration has grown only 9.6% since that period.

This graph shows male and female registrations since the 1997/98 season.  The 2011/12 spike in male registrations comes from ASHL members rolled under Hockey Canada.

2014 Clarkson Cup in Markham - a sponsors dream event

For the second year and sixth championship, the Canadian Women's Hockey League Clarkson Cup will be held in Markham, Ontario March 18 to 22, 2014. The Boston Blades are looking for their second Clarkson Cup win while the Brampton Thunder, Calgary Inferno, Montreal Stars and the Toronto Furies are all hoping to claim the coveted hardware.

While many hockey brands are spinning their wheels (or skating on dull blades) in the male hockey market, smart brands like Rocket Sport, Scotiabank, Bauer, The Globe & Mail, Tim Hortons, West Jet, Molson Coors and Chevrolet are puck dropping their efforts towards the growing female hockey market.

The event boasts 12,000 spectators over three days of 6 round round games and TSN coverage during the final game.  Your brand can appear on rink boards, the ice, live streaming, game tickets and more.  You can interact with spectators with contests and on-site exhibitor space.  Treat your employees and key accounts to the Awards Gala where you can meet all of the players and hear inspiring words from top figures in the hockey world.

Sponsorship packages range from $5,000 to $20,000.  If you need more information or representation, contact Stick Business directly via email editor@stickbusiness.net
